Rev. John Schmidtke
Pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Louis, MO
Since 1989, John R. Schmidtke has served the Lord as Pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Louis, MO. The congregation aggressively reaches into the Hyde Park neighborhood of inner-city north St. Louis through an extensive effort of youth programs, music ministries, athletic teams, and programs that strengthen families. In 2000, Bethlehem gave birth to a new not for profit housing ministry called Better Living Communities, that has built 96 new homes in the Bethlehem church neighborhood, and served as the catalyst for an additional 125 units of new housing through partner housing developers. The church also founded a K-5th grade charter school called The Arch Community School (TACS), which operates in the Bethlehem ministry building. In the fall of 2015, Bethlehem began a new mission program called Greater Things aimed at pouring the strengths of Bethlehem’s dynamic outreach beyond Bethlehem to other churches. Pastor Schmidtke is married to his wife and ministry partner, Sharon.
